The mountains of the Snowdonia National Park in an area of outstanding natural beauty provide a perfect background for this holiday. Country and coast are peppered with a special mix of historic sites and inspirational landscapes, all things which have made Snowdonia what it is today – a unique part of the United Kingdom.
Depart South Wales and travel to the George IV Hotel.
Day 2 – Welsh Highland Railway & Caernarfon Castle
Today we enjoy a 25-mile “Coast to Coast” steam railway journey from Porthmadog to Caernarfon through the heart of Snowdonia on the Welsh Highland Railway. The trains - hauled by the world's most powerful narrow gauge steam locomotives - climb from sea level to over 650ft on the foothills of Snowdon. On arrival in Caernarfon we head for its mighty castle. Possibly the most famous of Wales's castles its sheer scale and commanding presence easily sets it apart from the rest, and to this day, still trumpets in no uncertain terms the intention of its builder Edward I.
Day 3 – Portmeirion & Criccieth
After breakfast we make the journey to the unique coastal resort of Portmeirion. Designed by Sir Clough William-Ellis, Portmeirion was built in imitation of a rustic Italian village, to demonstrate how a naturally beautiful place could be developed without spoiling it. For the afternoon we return to Criccieth for some free time to enjoy its unique charm and picturesque beauty.
Day 4 – Llanberis & Snowdon Mountain Railway
A full day excursion to Llanberis, Snowdon’s village. Our day will include a ‘Majestic Mountain Top Adventure’ with a journey to the rooftop of Wales. From the moment you leave the station your train will begin the journey upwards to the clouds before finally arriving at one of the world’s great panoramas at the Summit of Snowdon, Eryri, Land of the Eagles. The rest of the day will be free in Llanberis.
After breakfast depart for home.
