This fantastic holiday takes us into the beautiful Black Forest, the setting for many a Grimm Brothers’ fairytale, where picturesque villages full of half-timbered houses dot the landscape and cuckoo clocks keep an eye on the time. Lasting memories will be created in this area of exquisite beauty that enjoys a culture and romance of legendary proportions.
Depart South Wales and travel to Dover for the ferry crossing to Calais, before continuing onto our overnight hotel in France.
Depart hotel and travel to Bad Dürrheim for our 5 nights stay at the Waldeck Spa Resort.
Day 3 – Rhine Falls & Schaffhausen
Today we board our coach and drive south into the most northerly region of Switzerland. Here we will experience the drama and beauty of the magnificent Rhine Falls, one of the largest waterfalls in Europe. Our visit includes a 30 minute boat trip with English audio guide. We then make our way to the nearby medieval town of Schaffhausen, known as the prettiest town in Switzerland.
Day 4 – Mainau & Constance
Today we travel towards Lake Constance and visit Mainau Island, known for its botanical gardens, the Castle of the Teutonic Order and Palm House. We enjoy a 90 minute guided walking tour of Mainau’s botanical treasures before heading to Constance, a town of great historical relevance and the most important on Lake Constance.
Day 5 – Triberg
In the morning we head to Triberg, located directly on the Black Forest railway line and famous for Germany’s highest waterfalls. Surrounded by wild and romantic landscape, the vibrant city of Triberg is renowned for its traditional wood carving and cuckoo clocks. In the afternoon we return to Bad Dürrheim for some free time and an opportunity to enjoy this fabulous spa resort.
Day 6 – Lake Titisee
Today we visit the north shore of Lake Titisee, one of Germany’s prettiest lakes, and join the ‘The Titus’. Built as a replica of a Roman galley ‘The Titus’ will take us on an enjoyable 25 minute cruise, after which we will have free time to explore the town of Titisee-Neustadt itself.
Depart Germany for the return journey to our overnight hotel in France.
Travel to Calais for the ferry crossing to Dover and the journey home.
