Itinerary

Day 1

Depart South Wales and travel to the Gretna Hall Hotel for our overnight stop.

Day 2

Leave the Gretna Hall Hotel and travel through the Trossachs to Fort William.

Day 3 – Oban & Distillery

Today we travel down the West Coast of Scotland to the seaside town of Oban, the "Gateway to the Isles", with its panoramic views of the mountains, lochs and islands.  Our time in Oban includes a visit to the Oban Distillery for a tour and immersive experience to learn about the whisky making process and unique taste of Oban.

Day 4 – The Jacobite Steam Train

After breakfast we make the short journey to Fort William Railway Station for a return journey on the West Coast Railway to Mallaig aboard the Jacobite Steam Train.  Made world-famous by the Harry Potter movies and described as one of the great railway journeys of the world, this 84-mile round trip takes you past a list of impressive extremes.

Starting near the highest mountain in Britain, Ben Nevis, it visits Britain’s most westerly mainland railway station, Arisaig; passes close by the deepest freshwater loch in Britain, Loch Morar and the shortest river in Britain, River Morar, finally arriving at the deepest seawater loch in Europe, Loch Nevis!  You may alight at Arisaig and from here, on a clear summer’s day, you can see the ‘Small Isles’ of Rum, Eigg, Muck, Canna and the southern tip of Skye.

Day 5 – Fort Augustus & Loch Ness Cruise

Today’s excursion takes us to the most southern tip of Loch Ness - the pretty Fort Augustus.  Lying on the impressive 60-mile-long Caledonian Canal, the historic and scenic Fort Augustus is a hugely popular tourist destination.  Included in our visit is a cruise on Loch Ness, with its breathtaking vistas and natural wonders.  Sit back as the cruise passes Cherry Island, the loch’s only island, and a loch-side view of the striking Fort Augustus Abbey.

Day 6

Leave Fort William and travel to the Best Western Plus Lancashire Manor Hotel for an overnight stop.

Day 7

Depart the Best Western Plus Lancashire Manor Hotel for the journey back home to South Wales.
